We all have things we believe in and live our lives by, or at least say that we live our lives by. The thing that we usually find out is that this isn’t always the whole truth or true at all. There are people that show a version of their lives on social media but if you spend time with them, you realise they are different in person. We should always know that our actions define us. We are what we do so if you claim to have a philosophy, let your life, the way you live it prove that you do have that philosophy.

PROMPT: What is your philosophy?

Willpower will fail but design will stand. When you expect willpower to help you through a rough patch or making good decisions, there’s a possibility of things going south. However, once you put the design in place to build the life you want, you fall back to that design and things go as you want and you make good decisions.

PROMPT: How do you design your life?

I remember the first time I had a discussion about living for my future self. It was a bit warped but when I could wrap my mind around it, I realised how important it is. For example, if my future self is a successful writer, what would I do now for that future self? Would I be lying down watching another show or would I be buckling up and writing something? If my future self is lifting 250lbs, would I currently be slacking off or going to the gym? When you live for your future self, it makes decisions a lot easier.

PROMPT: What is your future self like?

At times, parents design their children’s life. That isn’t wrong. However, once the child feels they might prefer going on a different path, I believe the parents should let the child do that. Sure things might turn out bad but it happened on their own terms. We should live the life we want and whatever comes out of it, we should face it head-on because it is what we wanted to do.

PROMPT: Are you living life on your terms?

If you want to do something, go ahead and do it. Understand this: not everyone will care for it and that’s fine. As long as you want to do it and feel comfortable doing it, go ahead and do it. It’s for you and that one person that will get it.
